the tale of the clam
The year was 2016. Gavin was a senior at Rocky River, Mason a freshman. I had gone on one of many weekly trips to Target to get some essentials, and many not so essential items:) When I returned back to “Bates Farm” (the origin of our homes name is a tale for another time) the boys came out to help me unload the car and as I was getting everything out of the bags and onto the counter I was so excited to share my find! Just as I would always get excited about a cute wine label this time I shared with them the cutest box I had ever seen! “Look guys there is a little wave on it and they are called WHITE CLAMS!” They both looked closer at the box and then at each other and they laughed hard. Gavin and Mason’s favorite thing was to tag team tease mom… and I have to admit I have always loved that. I mean if my silly and often unintentional anticts brought them joy, then I was here for it!!
So next thing you know Gavin says to me… “Ma, it says White Claws” We all laughed and laughed. Oops I inverted the W to an M, which made complete sense in my mind, clams are in the ocean and the wave, you get where my head was at🤦♀️? From that day forward the Claw was and forever will be a Clam. From OSU to OU, from Camp Chris to Rocky River and beyond people near and far enjoy Clams. When Gavin came to Texas in March of 2021 to help me, a group of kids his age took him out after our barn closed and in his photos there was a black video. His phone, always in his front pocket had obviously turned on and was recording accidentally. I listened and it was G telling his new friends The Tale Of The Clam. He loves the story and I loved hearing him tell it. Enjoy a Clam today, and cheers to the G.O.A.T!!!
